The Stump

When I was little, there was a small, round, squat stump, the remains of my Mama’s favorite tree that had unfortunately died, sitting right next to our front porch steps.

My parents tell me that when I was small, I would stand upon the Stumps’ top and begin to ‘preach’.

I would begin to jabber, and point my finger out as I spoke in a three-year-old fashion. I have honestly no idea what I was talking about, mostly silly nonsense, I’m sure.

My sisters would sit in their lawn chairs listening, and sometimes laughing, at whatever in the world I had to say.

The stump has since rotted and the only thing we have to prove this is a few pictures and what my parents tell me.

Why, you ask, do I tell you some silly story about a tree stump?

I do it because I want to show you something.

This blog, my stump, if you will, is how I can speak and proclaim the Grace of God.

Proclaim means,

‘To declare proudly or defiantly in speech or writing.’

We all have a stump in our lives (literally or figuratively), a way to share and proclaim what Jesus has done for us.

What is your stump?

It could be leading your children in a godly life, inviting your cranky neighbor down the street to church, or even showing kindness to your co-worker who has not been very kind to you.

Or it could be something totally different.

But what I’m saying is that, no matter what, you have some sort of way to speak and proclaim Jesus to others- even if it seems unimportant and insignificant.

What I tell you in the dark, say in the light,

and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.

-Matthew 10:27 (ESV)
