The Heart-Shield Bible

During World War 2, soldiers were often given a special bible called ‘the Heart-Shield Bible’.

The Bibles were crafted from a gold-plated steel cover bearing the message, ‘May this keep you safe from harm,’ engraved over the front. The Bibles were pocket New Testaments- the perfect size to fit easily in coat pockets.

The front cover is like a shield, meant to be put in the breast pocket of the soldiers, directly over their hearts and meant to be a shield from bullets- thus the name.

While we aren’t soldiers fighting during the world's worst war, we fight a spiritual war everyday of our lives until we get to Heaven. No matter what we do or where we go, our souls are at constant war between good and evil.

Psalm 119: 10-16 says this;

I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.

I have hidden your word in my heart

that I might not sin against you.

praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees.

With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.

I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.I meditate on your precepts

and consider your ways.

I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

To fight the Devil and to defeat his attacks, we need to put on the shield found in Epesians 6:16-

                          “.... Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”

Does your heart have this shield? Have you written in red across your heart so that you may be prepared for the day of battle?

Friend, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and having done all, to stand.
